Apr 6, 2012 7:32 AM in response to treergby simujoe,Since you can authorize up to 5 computers with your own account information, you can set up your child's computer with your own account information (not sure I would do this for a neice). I did this with my 11 year old's laptop. I then went into EDIT and clicked on PREFERENCES... then went through each tab at the top to turn off anything I didn't want her to have access to. Especially important is the PARENTAL tab. There, you can turn off the iTunes Store as well as set up a password so he or she cannot undo the changes you just made.
Hope this helps.

Jul 9, 2012 4:08 PM in response to treergby lewisjosh,I used the work around of setting up an allowance for my children in iTunes and it let me create apple IDs for them. I set up to put $10 a month in their account and then went back in and suspended it. So now they have their own apple IDs but I'm not putting money into their accounts yet.

Jul 10, 2012 10:10 PM in response to lewisjoshby lforestier,Is your child under 13? I am trying to set up an Apple ID for my 10 y/o and it won't save the information even after letting me create the Apple ID when I set up the allowance. I understand limiting the purchasing part to a child mature enough to handle transactions but I wan't my child to be able to use his music player and download music whenever I give him funds for it. It just doesn't let me

Dec 31, 2012 5:31 PM in response to treergby nimo2626,Hi
I would suggest you create a iTunes account without adding a credit card..see link below on how
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
Adjust the birthday to allow apple to create the account by adjusting the birthday...that's it. Account for kid without giving out your create card #..

Aug 13, 2013 2:22 PM in response to treergby technoceaser, they now have a program to let kids under 13 have an account witch works though the schools so the kids can have there own apple id to work on the schools ipads and such. you have to get the start of the id though the school and then make changes to it like set the email address for the id. http://www.apple.com/education/docs/Apple_ID_Parent_Guide.pdf
this is the guide pdf for it. also if you want to set up an id with out a c/c you have to go in to the app store with out an id and try to download a free app it will then tell you to make an apple id and when you get to the paymint area there will be a none option you can click on, or you can do what you were doing and just make it and put in your c/c and then just log into you account on itunes and remove the c/c ether way works
