Faxing doesn't work since I got DSL. My phone line is taken up with the DSL/ethernet cable, so I can't plug a phone cord into the modem port. (And I don't know if that would cause a conflict anyway?) What is the best way to handle this?
Most DSL modems do not affect the ability to use the telephone. Just run a telephone cable line from the computer's modem port to a free telephone jack. You can't fax through the DSL modem. If you don't have a free telephone jack available, then get a jack splitter that lets you connect two phones to the same jack. You can buy them at Radio Shack or telephone stores.
If for some reason our DSL modem does not let you use the telephone at the same time, then you would need to put in a second phone line.
One other thing. Simply splitting the line won't be enough. The DSL signal needs to be filtered out, the same as it does for your phones. Which is most likely why you can't fax. Radio Shack, Best Buy and a variety of electronics stores carry them. Place one between your modem and the phone line.
