Touch Screen Not Working

My Ipod Touch does not respond when I touch the screen. As a result, I can't even unlock my device. Nothing else appears to be wrong with it and all of it's buttons seem to work fine. I tried restoring it but that didn't help.

try:
- resetting it:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Placing it in recovery mode and restoring via iTunes. For recovery mode see:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
- Placing it in DFU mode and then restoring it. For DFU mode see:

- Let the battery fully discharge and try everthing again.

The same thing has happened to mine, but it was the result of dropping it on a tile floor. (Not good...i know). At times i can get it to unlock by touching the screen all over in different ways, but once it unlocks it goes crazy. Applications open up at random and actions are taken as if I was quickly and randomly touching all over the screen, but without touching it at all. I took it to an Apple store and they pretty much said there is nothing they can do for it. I really want that to not be the case. I hope someone can help.
