Leica DNG import from iPad unsupported.

I have 1000'a of DNGS from my Leica imported into my Aperture 3.0 library and they are all perfect. But on a recent trip i imported files from my card onto my iPad. DNG's don't seem to be supported, but it does read the JPR embedded so I can view them on the iPad - sort of.

I just imported these DNG's into Aperture 3.1.1 vie the import option in Aperture. Every DNG imported is being displayed as "unsupported image format".

What am I missing? Has anybody else seen this?

All updates have been applied to the iPad, Aperture and Mac OS X. Thx.

You're not crazy. I just tried the same thing--as a practice step--and came to the same conclusion. Files can be uploaded without a problem straight from my SD card to my Macbook--but they come out in unsupported format when I go from SD card to Ipad to Macbook. (I really want to figure this out, as I'm heading on a vacation and was planning to use my Ipad as a backup device.)

OK, a short-term fix is to download the files from your Ipad to Macbook using iPhoto--not Aperture. Then you need to move them on your Macbook from iPhoto to Aperture. This works fine. In my case, Aperture seems unable to download the DNGs directly from the iPad. (I'm on hold with Apple trying to figure this out.) But camera to iPad download via iPhoto and moved to Aperture does work fine. The images in fine form that way.

Urgh. Actually, for some reason, the size of the raw files decreased substantially when moved from iPhoto to Capture. Compression? I'm worry about this, unless it's just compression.

That sounds like a conversion to jpeg format. Can you locate the files in the Finder or check the properties in the HUD and verify if they are still RAW files?

I just tried an iPad pro in the Store. I came with a card with Jpegs and DNG's. (for the unknowing, .DNG is the RAW extension from Adobe that is used by many camera's, notably Leica).

The DNGs were imported using Photos. But the Photo's app on the iPad can't read the DNG's. It displays the thumbnail (very low resolution). If this is not supported, how can I use it? Otherwise I won't buy the iPad of course.

Would the Lightroom app help?
