Does Wi-Fi take priority over 3G for internet usage automatically?
I don't have an iPhone (I hope to remedy that soon however!!!) but am helping my son get started with his new one (I used my att upgrade to get it for him for Chirstmas!). Anyway, when he's at home in the range of our Wi-Fi network, does the Wi-Fi connection take precedence over 3G for web surfing, e-mail and other internet related functions? Does a setting have to be made to make this happen? He's already registered and logged into our home Wi-Fi network so I know he's able to connect to it just fine. Thanks.

All data would be taken care of over the Wifi Network but Voice data and texting is covered by the carrier so no. And the phone loses its EDGE or 3G coverage too when using voice calls or texting over when you are connected to Wifi.
One exception - if the phone is asleep and needs a data connection it will use cellular data, not WiFi, even if you are in range of a WiFi signal. When asleep WiFi is turned off to conserve battery.
This will be an issue if you have email fetch set to automatic or push, or if you have background apps like music streaming or social networking apps.
