Replies in mail (gmail) don't show up in inbox

It is not completely clear what you are asking...the message to which you replied should have a little curved arrow on the left side of the listing in the inbox. Is that what you are asking about?

The only way I know of is to got to the sent mail box and see what is in there. Unless you set your reply to cc to you...then you would get a copy in your inbox.

Also noticed that in Settings > Mail > Always Bcc Myself you can set to ON and get a copy automatically to each reply.

You can group emails, in fact, with iOS 4.2.1 the email should start grouping email threads as sub-inboxes...annoys ME sometimes to have to switch to those sub categories, but does keep things neater.

I have not used gmail, use Verizon for all my personal stuff.

I'll email my daughter and see how she handles that...uses gmail very heavily.

Here is some info, though not too helpful I am afraid:

+gmail is set up differently than regular email, with organizing emails. So when I look at it on my phone all the emails come in seperately instead of coming in as conversations as they do on my desktop+

Does gmail have a help/discussion support like Apple's? They might have suggestions for you.
