I spent an hour with online chat trying to find a way to use an Apple Store Gift Card to buy a Mac App...
The customer service rep thought the only way (at this time) was to buy an iTunes Gift Card with the Apple Store Gift Card, and have it shipped to me and that would work.
There is a "none" option, but in order to access it, you have to try to download a free app first, then it has that option when setting up the account. If you download a paid app, it doesn't give you that option.
Yes: "When you give iTunes Gift Cards, your lucky recipients can shop for anything we sell on the iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store. No matter which denomination, color, or theme you choose, any iTunes Gift Card can be used for music, movies, TV shows, apps, games, and books. You can include a personal message with your gift, and you always get free shipping."
