Direct Connect Macbook Pro to Mac Pro?

Is it possible to direct connect my Mac Book Pro to My Mac Pro via firewire for a quicker back up of the Mac book?

Mac Pro_Mac Book Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.5)

Yes. Target Disk Mode will allow that.

As I am a noobie to Mac and firewire; could you explain target disk mode please? Thanks for the help!

perform that function exactly this manner;

Mac Pro power up and booted.

connect firewire to Mac Pro first then to MBPro. Power on MBPro and hold down T key until you see the firewire on MBPro display.

when done, unmount MBPro from Mac Pro desktop. Power MBPro down then disconnect firewire cable from Mac Pro first then MBPro.
