Not compatible with Epson LCD projector?

I hooked up my iBook to an Epson LCD projector. Sadly (and to my misfortune), I found out that my iBook was not supported by the projector. The screen remained blue with a message that read "Not supported" followed by a hz = Khz thing (I can't remember the values).

Is it really unsupported or is there a way around this?

20" iMac G5 (iSight) ; 14" iBook G4 1.2 GHz (with OS 10.3.9), Mac OS X (10.4.3)

i'm not an expert, but it looks like the refresh rate your iBook is putting out doesn't jive with the projector. in system preference/displays, try to "detect monitors" (while plugged into the projector).
hope that helped a bit.

there might be a setting in the projector itself that needs to configured for the input signals type that is coming from the iBook (i.e. cable type, resolution, refresh rate, etc.).

Ah, I'll check the serial number of the projector in question. However, I feel that that particular unit is faulty. Even my friends' laptops running WinXP didn't work with it. Other units in other rooms worked with their laptops (one even worked with my teacher's old black iBook!)
