Kernel Panic on MacBook Pro, brand new.

HI!

I have done a lot of research on the kernel panic. It happens on Safari, and I have done all I think I can do based on what I have read on these forums. (PRAM, reinstall OS, repair permissions, ditch safari prefs, etc)

Another odd thing is that it only happens when my 24 inch cinema display is plugged in.

Here is the part that seems to be the most important.

This is the part that is consistent in every crash...

Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies):
com.apple.driver.AppleIntelHDGraphics(6.2.4)@0x82738000->0x827e6fff
dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.6)@0x7a896000
dependency: com.apple.iokit.IONDRVSupport(2.2)@0x81fbe000
dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(2.2)@0x82005000

BSD process name corresponding to current thread: Safari

---------
Is there a way to replace this?
com.apple.driver.AppleIntelHDGraphics(6.2.4)

--- I HAVE replaced the OS and it happened again.

Safari issue? Plug in issue? Flash issue? Like I said, it's only when I am browsing, and it happens .

Could it be a RAM or hardware issue? Something with the display?

Anyone?

THANKS!!!

I purchased my 2010 MBP 15" (Core i5) in mid-Nov. and got seven kernel panic errors in the first ten weeks. After speaking with Apple tech support and researching online, all signals pointed to a Safari/Flash issue -- and I'm also using an external Cinema Display.

I stopped using Safari and switched to Chrome at the end of Jan. and as of this writing (seven weeks later), there have been no additional kernel panic errors. Safari was recently updated to v5.04, but I'm hesitant to go back. Abandoning Safari may not help those who are experiencing errors in other apps, but if you've isolated the problems to Safari, switching browsers helped me.

everyone still getting em? My kernel panics always seem to correspond to WindowServer or kernel_task

It doesn't just seem to be safari for me. It happens in the beginning of some games sometimes.

Any info update on this?

STILL HAVE PROBLEMS???
I Ordered a "BRAND NEW" MacBook Pro in April 2011
took 10 days to get here. right out the box 1st day had like 5 KERNEL PANICS
took it over to the local mac store.
they said it was RAM so they replaced it FREE I was Happy went home, later that night same thing started to PANIC.
so I booked a next appointment with the mac store.
the night before I went I was on the net all night reading
so I made a few adjustments and so far so good now.
(I still went in to at least document the crash after the new ram)
so I will share what I did and see if anyone has tried it .

here are a 2 things I have tryed, still too soon to know if it working for real for me, but seems to,,
1st - I set my macbook pro to boot in 32bit not 64bit
2nd- i turned off sleep mode so my HD never sleeps.

if I fixed it for now(and it seems to be) I am happy,as long as I can work that's all i care about, I don't car about all types of extra features. I do enjoy the speed of the I7 its really fast(when it works lol )
anyway's for something 2500 and up in price it should be tweaked out the box,but whatever.as long as it works.

also I have partioned my HD so if I do get a Panic in the next few days I will reinstall on the new HD and boot from that and see if a fresh install works.(as suggested by the apple store)

please let me know if you have tryed any of the things I mentions and what type of results you got

Hello - I've been watching this thread as well as having kernel panic issues now and then when using Safari on my Mid 2010 MBP i5. I had a Genius bar appt here at 5th Ave store and showed the "Genius" my kernel panic report - all signs (as noted many times) point to Safari and Flash not playing nicely. He indicated the "engineers are aware of it and working on it" - then he suggested I try Chrome or Firefox....

May 2, 2011 8:49 AM in response to Lee Donovan

I'm quite sure the problem doesn't come from flash and safari since it occurs when I'm playing starcraft II or even while on windows (as I said in my previous post). But then mine can be an isolated case ...

I may also add (once again) that for 4 months now I've been using gfxcardstatus and asked it to use only the integrated graphic controller and ... not one single kernel panic since, while I had like 5 a day when using the nVidia card ...

May 7, 2011 9:38 AM in response to John Gallagher3

I had similar issues.

From what I can tell, "NVRM read error" is related to Graphics card virtual memory.

I think Apple had issues with the chips supplied by NVIDIA.

Mine is a Geforce 330M in a macbook pro from mid 2010.

None of the hardware tests on the OSX cd were able to detect it. It was solved with a logic board replacement, as it was for many others who have had this problem.

@ JoeBoBstah

Kernel panics dissapearing when using the Intel integrated garphics chip point to a likely faulty Nvidia GPU, get it replaced while you still have your warranty.

Add me to the list. Seemingly random kernel panics and freezes on a month old 13" Macbook pro. Yesterday I had 9 and my laptop started beeping at me in the middle of a conference. Wasn't doing anything strenuous at the time - just surfing and tweeting and a little prezi. Had to use my iPad to present as I just can't trust my Macbook at the moment.

I hope this isn't a hardware issue and can be fixed with a firmware update.

I had the same issue. Tried a suggestion I saw here. Downloaded Firefox last night. My MBP was getting kernel panics when using Safari and watching Flash video (I was watching some Smallville episodes on CWTV.com). Anyway, constant lockups with Safari and Flash. Not one with Firefox!

Not a solution I like, but at least I can move forward for now.

I also have an appointment today with the Genius Bar at my Apple store. I will see what they say (probably Apple does not support Flash).

I had a kernel panic problem with my Snow Leopard Server after I updated to 10.6.7 (from 10.6.6). I eventually had to format / reinstall the OS, then update to 10.6.7 from (I think) 10.6.0. This worked for me (huge pain in the ...). Also, one thing that I'm weary of now is applying all updates at the same time if there is a major OS update. I apply the major update first, then rerun Software Update to get the others.

My june2009 MBP started getting the kernal panics after 10.7.6. I am also using the 27" cinema display. It would freeze up after a while & I would have to do a hard reset. It finally killed my hard drive.

It is now at the apple store getting a new hard drive. I asked both apple care guy & person at the apple store if they've seen/noticed an increase in failures since 10.6.7 & they both said no. I am not convinced. A buddy just had the same thing happen to his mini where the hard drive went bad after the update. His MBP is now acting funny as well.....

Oh and another thing. I thought that it might be a worthwhile formatting the disk and doing a fresh install but I get a kernel panic every time I try to boot from the DVD. I also tried booting from an external disk but that just hangs indefinitely with the Apple logo showing.

After that I decided to partition the internal drive and trying a clean install on the new partition - more kernel panics.

What on earth could be causing this?
