Faces crashes when entered in iPhoto

As a Test:

Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'

Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.

If that fails:

Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.

Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I'm having the same problem, face recognition appears to crash on one or more photos in my library, unfortunately I can't easily determine which one.

Deleting Databases/Faces.db brings temporary relief.. and I try to remember to click on "pause" each time I re-open iPhoto to stop it getting to the critical point and crashing.. but eventually it does.. I've tried creating a completely new library but get the same issue, also the same on a mac mini with a "cleaner" OS install ( less plugins e.t.c.), I've also tried using "dtruss" and "lsof" to try to determine which particular JPEG ( I'm assuming its a JPEG as thats in the stack trace ) it is.. but no luck catching it that way.

Is there anyway to disable faces in iPhoto 11 ?

maybe I'll just put in a crontab to remove Faces.db on a daily basis.
