settings for burning 1080P as SD autoplay

Hi
I have a full HD 1080P 3:40 min project created in Premiere Pro and I want to burn it on a regular DVD using iDVD. The DVD should be played off of a PC DVD drive onto a wide screen display. Trying to get the highest quality for that playback.

What are the best settings to go about doing that - both in exporting from Adobe media encoder via PPro and the iDVD settings?

Will the PC drive play an HD DVD?

So far all options I've tried give an encoding error in iDVD.

I think regular (non HD) DVD must be SD and MPEG2 so I'm not sure how to go about moving from the source file which is HD to iDVD

iDVD doesn't create 'HD' DVDs. It creates SD discs with widescreen content anamorphically squeezed to fit into the SD format.

No version of iDVD (Yet) can do HD.

alt. is to use

• Roxio Toast™ 10-Pro incl. Blu-Ray component
• Blu-Ray burner and disk
• alt. Toast™ can burn full Quality to DVD but then just 20 minutes maximum in Blu-Ray standard
STILL - This the need a Blu-Ray Player to be viewed.
(May be a PlayStation3™ - not all Blu-Ray players play them)

Playback via Mac to screen. Should give a full quality Playback ? ? ?

DVD Studio Pro - in FinalCut Studio bundle - should be able to do HD
but can only be played on a few Toshiba DVD-players and a few Macs (not all of them).

Take out movie on USB-memory - Put into PlayStation3™ ==> Very good quality (it’s said)

This is wrong. You can fit more than that by lowering the bitrate. An hour would take about 10 mbps H.264.

I was wondering which export settings would produce best quality - minimize pixel and ratio distortions etc - when going from full HD to SD creating a video DVD. iDVD didn't recognize some of the different export files I created and had encoding errors.

first time trying iDVD to burn autoplay SD DVD to play on most DVD decks and PC drives.
What specs should the file have? is there a recommended workflow? Iidvd not so good at this?

This is wrong. You can fit more than that by lowering the bitrate. An hour would take about 10 mbps H.264.

But that sort of detracts from true HD quality doesn't it? (Unless you are shooting a movie of a black cat in a coal bin.)

I encode my home movies (often poor lighting, no tripod) in H.264 at around 11mbps. There are no discernible artifacts or other problems. I'm pleased with the results.

did you ever get an answer to this. It seems like people are not understanding that you know that you can't burn a hd dvd with idvd, you are just looking for the best settings to go from a hd timeline in premiere to a file that idvd can create a sd dvd with. I'm in the exact same boat! (hey adobe, how about a preset for idvd?!!)
