Can i connect a 3G Vodafone USB modem to my iMac?

Hi,

I am new to the forum and new to the Mac world.

I am the proud new owner of an iMac 27". I am trying to setup an internet connection with my 3G USB modem, but when the device is plugged in it comes up with a message saying "the device is not recognized by this computer" ??

What would be the steps in order to get this working? Do I need an OS upgrade? Can someone direct me to a step-by-step guide of some sort?

Thanks.

iMac 27", Mac OS X (10.6.3), 27-inch (MC510) 3.2GHz Intel Core i3 processor 4GB memory 1TB hard drive ATI Radeon HD 5670 Graphics

Hi,

I'm new as well, and don't have the answer, but wondering if you figured this out?

I'm currently using cable modem but moving to the country soon, and will have to go to a USB connect via AT&T. I'm going from using a Time Machine as the central router (of which my Macs, PCs, Printers, and Apple TV connect to wirelessly) to having to use a USB stick modem, and share that 3G connection via my iMAC 'internet sharing'.

Question I'm wondering, does USB stick 'internet sharing' on an iMAC work? When I go to 'internet sharing' on my iMAC system preferences, there is no "USB Sharing" option in the dropdown menu (of course I don't have a USB connect stick in the iMAC yet).

Let me know if you've learned anything...

Thanks,
