MacBook Pro not restarting - constantly restarting...

Here is a challenge.
We have a MacBook Pro 15" 2008 model, which currently restarts by itself. Restart – grey screen, spinning lineclock - restart and so on.
I have reset the PR RAM and SMC. Trying to start in Target disc mode brings up the Firewire logo, but the MacBook Pro does not show up on my MacPro, so cannot access it at all.
Trying to launch from the System Disc (both the Leopard disc as well as the Restore Discs) results in continuous restarts again, meaning I cannot even run Disk Utility on it or reinstall the system.

Any ideas anyone? Any help would be appreciated.

thank you,

Stefan.
