Rebuilding thumbnail cache every time I launch iPhoto 11?

please tell me there is a way to stop this, I bought iLife 11 the day it was available for sale and upgraded the second I opened the package. I didn't have any preliminary issues like some initial users had and was very pleased.

Now every single time I open iPhoto I get the pop down that says "Rebuilding Thumbnail Cache" and it is crazy slow, I have tried using the "hold Command and Option down while starting iPhoto" and that does not seem to fix it when selecting check boxes.

I have also downloaded iPhoto Library Manager but haven't tried that since I don't want to create a new library, just want to fix the one I have!

does anyone have a workaround to avoid the rebuilding of cache or possibly one final method to rebuild and leave it alone? having to wait in excess of 45 minutes to open iPhoto is crazy.

now you got me to thinking about where it may be stored...

I say that because I received a 1TB external HDD for Christmas and was excited about finally being able to use Time Machine, I just opened Finder and this is what I see:

User-Pictures-iPhotoLibrary- and it says 32.85GB on disk,am I correct in assuming that my Library is stored locally on my machine?

Yes that sounds like your Library is on your machine.

Something worth a try:

Go to your Pictures Folder and duplicate your Library. Open the duplicate: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' - does it have the same issue?

I am going through the steps again in case I missed something:

Open Finder
under Places I click my username
scroll to Pictures (click)
scroll to iPhoto Library
CTRL and click on iPhoto Library
down to Duplicate and click

upper right I see the "Copy iPhoto Library to Pictures" with an estimated time of about an hour.

not yet Terence, the last time it happened was about half way through the copy process.

as of this post I am 325MB of 32.72 done, if it pops up I will post (fingers crossed that it doesn't and was just a glitch in the matrix or something)

EDIT

6.02 GB of 32.75... looking good so far

right after I crossed over the 7 GB mark I got slapped with the same message, now I am scared since that is a lot of pictures to go awol

This is a possible cause of the issue you're having.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair Library permissions.

I have officially completed this task, the thumbnails are all there and I can see them just fine.

I am about to close iPhoto and for kicks restart the MB and launch iPhoto (fingers crossed and one eye closed)

Terence I had a glimmer of hope when the iPhoto icon was bouncing for an unusual amount of time, the program launched and folders filled out the left and I smiled briefly.

Then it happened.

I was hoping this issue would go away but it is still here, I think I will just remove iPhoto and reinstall it to see if that fixes it.

I am at wits end.
