How well does HP's ZR30W 30" monitor work with radeon 5770 and OSX 10.6.5

I want full 2560x1600 resolution and like the reviews of HPs 30" monitor - but most reviews are in a Windows system.

How well does this monitor work with Mac? PS/Premiere? Firefox? Other "regular" apps? How does the billion-color AdobeRGB gamut look? Any flicker problems?

Macpro, Mac OS X (10.6.5)

Hi SanFranDiver,

I cannot answer your question about the HP monitor (ZR30w?), but have you considered an alternative 30" display which has been well proven to perform excellently with Mac OSX and ATI Radeon graphics cards - the NEC LCD3090WQXi?
http://macperformanceguide.com/RecommendedDisplays.html

From personal experience I can fully recommend the NEC3090WQXi, because I have been using one since July 2009, originally with an nVidia GT120, and then an ATI Radeon HD 4870 since November 2009, and it has performed flawlessly from the moment I connected it to my 2009 Nehalem Mac pro via the dual-link DVI interconnect which was included with the display.

I opted to purchase the standard version, instead of the Spectra View II version recommended in the above link, and I was able to add ColorMunki Photo and a Wacom Intuos4 A4 Graphics Pad for less overall cost than buying the SV II model.

The NEC 3090WQXi is rotatable, and, therefore, can be used in both landscape and portrait formats, whereas I believe that the HP 30" display does not offer that option.

I have used the 3090WQXi from Mac OSX 10.5.6 through to 10.6.5 without a single problem, and by using ColorMunki Photo, I am able to colour match the output of my Epson Stylus Pro 3880 A2 printer to the on screen display.

The applications/software I have used include iPhoto, Aperture 2 & 3, Photoshop Elements 6 & 8, and more recently Photoshop CS5 and LightRoom 3. Also, I use an Epson Perfection V750 Pro to scan old photo prints, and 35mm negatives & transparencies, onto my system, using both Epson software and SilverFast Ai.

In addition I use numerous other applications/software, many of which are related to photo editing and digital imaging.

I have not used Premier, but I did use Firefox very briefly. When Safari 5.0 was introduced there were some "teething problems", and I tried Chrome, Firefox, and Opera as alternative browsers, but none of them had the "Apple Mac feel" about them, and I reverted to Safari, which has been virtually problem free for several months now.

To summarise the NEC 3090WQXi has performed flawlessly with whatever applications/software I have used. I have had no flicker problems, and, in my opinion, there is no other 30" display at a similar price to match it. For me there was the added bonus of being able to obtain it in silver (SV), instead of black (BK), so that it looks superb alongside my Mac Pro on top of my work desk.

Finally, the NEC 3090WQXi has an alaScore of 91/100 on alaTest as at January 5, 2011:
