Converting files to AAC format on iPod Shuffle

Help! When I import a CD in Itunes I have it set up to import using the AIFF Encoder. In my Ipod options I have selected convert higher bitrate songs to 128 kbps AAC for this ipod. However, when I go to add the song to my ipod it puts it in the list but it fails to copy the file to the ipod. I just recently ran into this problem. Does anyone know if there's something wrong with my shuffle? Any help would be great, thanks.

maybe the "convert higher bitrate songs to 128 kbps AAC for this ipod" option is only for supported audio files on the shuffle, according to http://www.apple.com/ipodshuffle/specs.html audio support section there is no mention on AIFF for the shuffle... hope this helps

Thanks for the advice. But there is no AAC option when importing CD's and now I have a bigger problem. Now my Itunes won't play any of my songs at all. I click on the song and it just sits there. I can open the file in Windows Media and it plays just fine. Would you have any idea what is causing this?

It seems to me that you've ended up somewhere between AIFF and AAC. Because WMP supports buttloads of formats, it will play the files, the iPod is much more finicky.

There are two settings on the importing tab preferences pane: one that chooses the file format, the other at what bit rate. Simply select AAC and 128 or higher and reimport music from CD's. I would recommend deleting the AIFF versions BEFORE you reimport however, so you or iTunes don't get confused as to which one is which since the titles will all appear exactly alike.

Thanks for all the help. I found out my Quicktime & Itunes were installed incorrectly. They are both fixed and I can now import files as AAC and put them on my shuffle.
