Black areas in Adobe Illustrator files show up gray in Keynote

When I bring an Illustrator file into Keynote, parts of the image that are 100% black in the illustrator file show up as about an 80% gray when inserted into a Keynote slide. Is there a workaround or a fix for this? Using the instant alpha in Keynote to remove the black from the image doesn't produce acceptable results.

Make sure the illustrator document that contains your image is set to RGB color mode. You can change this by going to File | Document Color Mode | RGB

Also, make sure that your color panel is set to RGB mode (you can change this by clicking on the flyout menu, you should see the 3 RGB slides, not 4 CMYK). Then select your image and apply black (R=0, G=0, B=0). Now if you copy and paste into keynote it should show up as true black.
