Can't Access Settings for Linksys Router

You're supposed to be able to type the IP address for the router into a browser search box, and then it's supposed to open the preferences controls for your router. I know this worked before because I've opened it a couple of times. But now if I run the IP all I get is a Google search results page. I've tried using both Safari and Firefox, and I reset the router. Nothing.

What's going on?

it sounds like you’ve been pretty thorough. So, just to eliminate a couple of things, because when you write something you assume we know certain things — i do it all the time, you entered the “http://...” address on the sticker on the back of your router, right? I know you did but i am eliminating the simple stuff. And you entered the “http://...” on the back of your router into the Location Bar and not the browser search box, right? I know you did that right too. Hmmmm i would delete the cookies from both browsers and try again with each. if that don’t work go Safari/Reset Safari and give that a go. i have a few other ideas but since you said “ browser search box” and not “location bar” I’m gonna stop for now.

It's no good typing it into the search box, you have to type it into the address bar. This link should take you there if your Linksys model uses the same address as mine:

http://192.168.1.1/

(This will only take you to your router: anyone else would be taken to their router if it uses the same address: the address is not accessible from the outside world so there is no security risk in my posting this link).
