    Welcome to the discussions,
did you already try to remove and reinstall iTunes and AMDS? http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567

Did you try to log in as a new Windows user, set up your iTunes account, deactivate autosync and connect your ipod. If it is recognized by iTunes, you may have a USB driver or software conflict using your normal Windows user account.
Here's a help article about checking your USB driver installation: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538

1.I set up a new user acc and tried Itunes, it did not work. I have never used autosync in my life, and about the article , yea i uninstall ed, installed, updated my amds and everything does not work.

Thanks for taking ur time off to reply to my questions.

just to add on, when i put my device to recovery mode ( connect to itunes ), the werid thing is Itunes RECOGNIZED my device and told me to restore my ipod touch. However, since i want to back up and transfer my purchases 1st, i did not restore it and took it out of recovery mode. After that my ipod touch was not recognized anymore.

Can you try another computer to back up manually and transfer your purchases to?
Did you already try to delete and install iTunes again?
Have a look at this help article, to be sure that you removed every Apple related software before you installed iTunes again: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925 After that follow this one http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567 to install iTunes and Apple Mobile Device Service again.

Yup, i have a pc and a laptop, and its only my pc that's causing problems. all my ipod stuffs(apps, songs) are in my laptop now and i have been using my laptop mostly ever since. However, i prefer my pc because of the higher ram (2GB) compared to my laptop (1GB)

Yes, i have completely removed everything apple related in the control panel in order according to the article and reinstalled with the latest version of iTunes. It just doesn't work at all...

    windows Vista or Windows 7
Close iTunes and disconnect the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Click the Windows Start button .
In the Start Search field type Services.
In the Programs section of the search results, click Services.
Right-click on Apple Mobile Device and click Properties in the shortcut menu.
Set the Startup type pop-up menu to Automatic and click OK: Restart the computer.
Open iTunes and connect the device.
