The part that doesn't make sense is why do they allow an option of "None" for me and not for you?  If your belief about Apple strategy is correct, I wouldn't have that option either.  That's why I'm thinking about the law.  There might be some obscure legal situation of which you're unaware.

Problem solved. Apparently, apple doesn't allow existing registered accounts slip in without giving up their credit card numbers, however, they do if you are entirely new. So, I had to create a phony email, and redo the process, then the alternative of not submitting your credit card is given.

Either this is a bug, or Apple wants to increase spending in the store.

I found the solution here, bottom post.

Weird.  Especially so because, in my case, it was an existing account!  Oh well, all's well that ends well.

    Why?

You don't need a credit card (and cannot even use a credit card) when creating an Apple ID.

Chris, it seems to me you never understood that there is a problem.

For people who already have an apple id, but do not have an id in the mac appstore, credit card is mandatory when creating the id.

However, if you start from a completely new email adress, it works without adding credit card.

Me, I created a nonsense email just to be able to use it without giving my credit card details to apple.

I understand very well, thank you.

For people who already have an apple id

So you added your credit card when you created your AppleID to post in these forums?

    No.

    Chris,

the question is about the Id in the  "mac app store".

It is necessary to add your credit card number, create the account using an email already registered with apple. The option to not add credit card does not exist.

However, the same operation with a new email, you do have the option of not adding a credit card.

Again, I understand fully, thank you. Seems you are not understanding.

mantus said a CC is not needed when creating a new AppleID. Ths is correct.

True, however, the point of his video is to show that you can create an apple ID that is possble to use with the mac app store wihtout using credit card, altough he does not state that explicitly.

Apple IDs created in other ways, twill not function in the mac app store without also adding a credit card.

    Why?

Do you have a gift card balance on  your iTunes account?

  • oyinyeri Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Apple keep asking me to enter my credit card information after registering without credit card.

I can't use my itune or appstore because it's a new id. Is it a new policy that they have.

Asking you to contact Apple support even when you try to register without Credit card.

  • Chris CA Level 9 Level 9 (77,400 points)

Is it actually asking you to add your CC info or is it simply asking you to very your payment info?

Do you have an option of None in the credit card?

Just keeping this thread going and pointing to the apparent "solution" that is buried in here somewhere (actually was a link from a MacRumors forum post):

To download a free app from the Mac App Store without a credit card, you (apparently) must create a new Apple ID, apparently from within the App store.

On your Mac, go to the app store and locate the free app. Click install.

In the Apple ID window, click Create New ID

You have to use a different e-mail address (and you will have to verify it) and create a password. You have to supply birthdate.

On the billing information screen, there should be a "None" button at the top. Click it. You will still have to provide an address and phone number.

I tested this various ways, including with an Apple ID I had just created on the Apple Store Web site.

This is TRULY a hassle. We'll see if it works when I want to get some other free app.
