Direct push not working but will sync mail when mail app is opened

My agency is running Exchange 2003 and the mail was pushing no problems for over a month and then my colleague starting having problems with his push emails so i added his account to my iphone and now my iphone wont' push from the exchange server anymore and his account still isn't working. I added my hotmail account and it is working no problems with push. i tried reset all content and settings on the iphone and still nothing.

As far as i know no settings on the exchange server have changed and i have verified active sync is running and can get to mail.domain.ca/oma and mail.domain.ca/exchange no problems.

Anyone else have any suggestions as i am lost and hate opening up the mail application just to get my mail

Thanks in advance.

Unless you created your Hotmail account as an Exchange account, push access for recieved messages does not apply with your Hotmail account. Fetch only - automatically or manually.

Are you saying the Exchange account is not automatically checked for new message either based on your fetch setting for automatically checking an email account for new messages that does not support push access? This setting should apply for an account that supports push access with push access is not available for whatever reason.

i did create my hotmail as an exchange account and used m.hotmail.com as the server and it is working perfectly just like my work exchange account.

my exchange account will check and sync messages based on my fetch settings, which i have tried 15 min and manually and they both work. it will not push them for whatever reason but did until i added my colleagues account and my colleagues account did work for a while as well.

why would push not be available, what are different reasons, do you know?

A new message recieved at the incoming mail server for an account that supports push access is pushed by the incoming mail server for the account. If push access for recieved messages works for your Hotmail account being accessed as an Exchange account, there is nothing wrong with your iPhone. The problem lies with the Exchange Server for the account with the problem.

Nothing personal, but what business are you in that makes having to recieve new messages the instant the messages arrive at the incoming mail server vs the account being checked for new messages every 15 minutes?

Hey Allan,

Thanks for the response. Well the problem did lie with the iPhone as i suspected. I restored my iphone from a backup in itunes to before i added my work colleagues email and it is working fine now. No idea why a erase content and settings wouldn't have done it but it is working so i am happy. Any thoughts as to why?

As for your other question, i am a Systems Administrator so waiting the 15 min isn't the end of the world, but it does give me a head start in case of any major issues and the more important part to me was it was working and then stopped so i wanted to know why.
