Can't buy free apps with an account without a creditcard?

I have two accounts. One has a creditcard attached, which I use for business purposes. The other account hasn't a creditcard attached an has an iTunes Gift Card credit on it. With that second account it won't let me purchase free apps.

Anyone else the same problem?

I am guessing that you will need a new Apple ID. You established one Apple ID in order to log onto this website to ask your questions in this forum. Then when the App Store came into being, it looked to your Apple ID here in this forum and copied it. The problem--from our perspective, and obviously not from Apple's--is that App Store wants your credit card in order for you to use the App Store with your existing Apple ID. The way I got around that is to create a new Apple ID using a different e-mail address. With the new Apple ID I opened a new account at the App Store, and in doing so I found the none button.

okay guys i think i got the solution to your problem with no 'none' options. the first thing you need to do is sign out from your existing apple id coz you've got ot make a new one. secondly. this is the important part. u NEED TO SELECT ANY FREE APPS and click on 'free' if you want to install. next thing it will ask for your apple id and YOU NEED TO CREATE A NEW APPLE ID using any email address which have not register to apple. after that voile there will be a 'none' option. GOODLUCK! 🙂

Thanks for the tips!

It worked for me when I went ahead and created a new apple id from within the App Store application, there was a "None" option available. Apparently, you *need not* necessarily set your country to US as someone mentioned in one of the previous posts. Just create the ID from within the App Store and it seems to work fine. I still find it strange though that Apple omitted the "None" option for existing AppleId's trying to login to the App Store for the first time; that is just flawed.

Sorry to rant, but this is all part of apple's "customer tracking policies". These iPods/Pads/Phones are just fancy tracking divises and people are more than willing to give up all their information to them. The only way to change the iTunes store credit card rules is to get more people on her to protest their policy, so get all your friend on here to complain about this. Otherwise, you need to give them you card number and deal with it.
