AppleTV and Remote Application Wierdness

This morning my son was watching a cartoon on our AppleTV and I was attempting to listen to music hosted our MacMini through some speakers in our front room. When I used the Apple's Remote application and selected the Mac Mini's music library my son's show stopped playing on the AppleTV and started playing the music on the MacMini connected to the TV and showed the album artwork. Is this normal?
