MacPro, Mac OS X (10.6.6), Bc Assistant 3.0.4
"Did the 10.6.7 update fix the problem?"
No.
I have a MBP 15" 2011. I have left my Snow Leopard disk at work (200 miles away) and won't be able to pick it up for another few weeks.
I am having the same proplem when I try to save the Windows Support download to a MD-DOS (FAT 32) USB HDD; an error comes up saying it couldn't be saved.
But I found a simple solution that I bet nobody has even thought of trying:
Download the Windows Support stuff to the desktop of your Mac, then simply drag the folder to the external HDD. It copies across with no proplems.
I haven't actually tried installing my Win 7 disk yet in case my idea above doesn't actually work when having installed Windows and somebody has already tried it. So, has anybody tried the method I mentioned above? Were you able to install Windows without the Snow Leopard disk?
Thank you.
So is there really not an update for this? Surely by now this should be fixed?
If you're using the bundled Boot Camp 3.04 that comes with MacBooks / iMacs etc. it'll not upgrade with the v.3.1, v3.13 nor v3.2 until... if it's saying "v3.0 of Bootcamp is not loaded" etc.
You reload your Windows drivers from a ORIGINAL RETAIL Snow Leopard DVD only. That retail version contained v3.0. You just load in the disc in Windows and it'll overwrite the v3.04.
Once you do that you can then download v3.1, v3.13 (if applicable to you), and v3.2 directly from Apple's Downloads section and it'll all work perfectly then. [once you've all those in you can then download Service Pack 3 of Windows XP as an additional advantage].
Another tip... let Windows RE-FORMAT your FAT32 drive again (i.e. not using the Boot Camp version) or preferably NTFS for the best compatibility.
I can finally tell you what worked for my MBPro 15" (early 2011) in the absence of the original install disk, after trying several options over several days.. The following procedure worked and installed the missing drivers for Windows7 into my MBP.
Donwloaded the bootcamp package from here using OSX
Installed package into OSX. Went to the \library subdirectory, bootcamp directory, and copied all files in there to a FAT drive.
Booted into Windows7, clicked on the Setup.exe in the FAT drive (which was copied above), and chose Repair.
Bootcamp installed all the drivers that were missing, and is now updating to version 3.3 through Apple Software Updates.
The above package is from May 2011and should include all the new MBPros, although I can only vouch for the 15" model that I have.
As stated earlier in the thread, the Catalog file lists another BCamp installation from 2010 which might work for other models. That installation (from October 2010) is here:
