Bootcamp Assistant Problem

After I setup my new MacPro. I tried to get Bootcamp working. Version 3.0.4 of the Bootcamp Assistant Downloads the new Windows Support Files but it won't burn a cd As Bootcamp Assistant Zella me it would. Is it a known Problem in the New Version and how can I resolve the issue?

MacPro, Mac OS X (10.6.6), Bc Assistant 3.0.4

Have the exact same problem when saving to usb too.
I'm wondering if this could be a problem with downloading the files? According to documentation it's supposed to download the files first and then save them to your chosen destination.

(Yes I know it's macbook air, but bootcamp is the same throughout I believe.)

In my opinion it seems like that the download progress is far too fast to get the necessary files. Maybe it's just not fully set up yet? And before anyone asks, I've tried saving into both a FAT and HSF+ partition and both had plenty of room. Never had bootcamp do this before, usually I just used my install disc for all the drivers. If anyone knows anything about this would love to know.

The only thing Boot Camp Assistant does is

Take free unfragmented space and create a partition for Windows. Does not download or install anything (it may for a MacBook Air help setup a CD with a DVD driver as the Air doesn't have one).

Mac Pro has 4 internal drives. You have the option of install Windows on a dedicated entire hard drive other than Mac OS; or on Mac OS drive.

You have to pull all the other drives before booting from Windows.

Mac Pro - you need Windows 7 64-bit. Pro to address two physical processors, or to address more than 16GB RAM.

Just Purchased a 15" Macbook Pro i7 yesterday and tried to install Windows 7 last night and had the same problem as several others.

There is now a step before fragmenting that states - Important: Do not use windows support software from a Mac OS X installation disk or another Mac. It downloads the software and prompts you to burn to a CD or DVD. Boot camp recognizes the disk but wont burn the software to the disk.

I realize thats what bootcamp used to do, but with the 10.6.6 update and bootcamp assistant 3.0.4 apple now wants you to download the drivers before it will actually let you install windows. The assistant clearly states do not use the drivers found on your OSX dvd. Will post screen shots momentarily.

Ok so here are those screen shots from my MBP mid 2010. Everything is fully updated and this is what seems to be happening for everyone now.

(I realize 3 seems to be out of order, but the download bar goes by so quickly that I couldn't screen capture it in time. So I went through a second time.)

This clearly depicts what is happening when I go through bootcamp on a MBP 13". I believe this is also what everyone else is going through as well.

It may, it may mean that Boot Camp 3.2 is being installed, or whatever is current, but it has nothing to do with actual partitioning part itself.

AND, hijacking a thread designed to walk thru what a WORKSTATION 4-drive Mac Pro will need to do is different than those with one internal drive; an SSD + physical hard drive; or MacBook or MBP or MB Air.

You call this hijacking? It's the exact same problem except I've gone and expanded it to affecting external drives too.

This is a bootcamp assistant problem which sounds to be exactly what the original poster is experiencing. If my assumptions are correct then this has nothing to do with the model, this is a bootcamp assistant problem with the new update.

Previously it did work as people were mentioning, partition the harddisc then install windows and use osx cd. With 10.6.6 and bootcamp assistant 3.0.4 it no longer wants you to do this. Now you have to download the files and put them on a cd or external. As me and the original poster have stated it won't either burn files to cd or save them to an external.

"After I setup my new MacPro. I tried to get Bootcamp working. Version 3.0.4 of the Bootcamp Assistant Downloads the new Windows Support Files but it won't burn a cd As Bootcamp Assistant Zella me it would. Is it a known Problem in the New Version and how can I resolve the issue? "

I also have a MBP 13" running 10.6.6 update and Boot Camp assistant 3.0.4. As the others have experienced, it requires you to download Windows support software before proceeding. Since my machine is brand new with nothing added to it (save being added to a wireless network), it is a clean slate.

I spoke with support for about 1/2 hour and was referred to a senior support rep. It was his opinion that the problem may be in the version of Boot Camp assistant. According to their information, 3.0.4 is a version to be used on the MacBook Air where Boot Camp works differently than other Mac laptops.

I will be sure to post a solution if one is found.

Follow up but no solution yet.

The information Apple has states that 3.0.4 is supposed to be on the Air. They have sent an inquiry to engineering to determine if it was supposed to be installed on other devices or if it was an error with how the machines are being set up and shipped.

I am supposed to hear back from support by Tuesday Jan 11, 2011.

I had exactly the same issues, it made me download the new software and then would NOT burn the disk nor would it put the files on a FAT drive.

I found a Boot Camp Assistant 3.0.2 and it worked just fine. Sounds like there is a bug in the 3.0.4 version of the assistant that apple will have to fix via software update.

If you can find a 3.0.2 update it can tide you over, otherwise looks like you are stuck till Apple does the push to all the users with 3.0.4
