The exact sequence:
select app to buy, click on bye
appstore asks for admin password
appstore asks for apple id password
wheel turns shortly
appstore asks for apple id password a second time
and that's it, nothing download.

Once I have given my passwords and CC info, the App icon appears on the dock showing it downloading and then installing.
What happens if you go to itunes and check your purchase history, do it show the Apps purchased?2.4GHz MacBook 5,1, Mac OS X (10.6.6), iPhone 3GS iOS4.1 GMT+11

Unmount them from diskutility and try again..this solution has worked for most of them; I am yet to try...iMac, Macbook, iPhone, iTouch, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

I have other issues with the Mac AppStore:
• I open the AppStore on my MacBook Air
• I go to the "purchased" section
• And there's the beach ball! It becomes totally unusable...
Anyone having the same issues?
