Cannot update to 10.6.6

I tried to update to 10.6.6 using Software update, but installation cannot be completed due to some mysterious error (I could not catch it). The problem is that I cannot open Keynote now, and the message at its startup says: "Keynote cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure Keynote works with this version of MacOS. You may need to reinstall the application" The OS version I am still using is 10.6.5

Today I downloaded the 10.6.6 update file, and tried it, with the same result, message saying: "The installation failed. The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance"

Help anybody?

I am having the same error when trying to install 10.6.6. (I had the same exact issue with 10.6.5 which is why I'm still using 10.6.4). I have no problems with Keynote though.

I have tried downloading the update from the support site but get the same error. I even contacted Apple support and set up a call from them, but I never heard from them. Anyone figure out how to fix this? All other updates work as long as I disable the OS from updating.

Thanks for the help.

My best suggestion for persons having difficulty with the update to 10.6.6 is to run the Mac OS X v10.6.6 Update Combo located here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1349.

The combo updater replaces all files updated since 10.6.0 with brand new "fresh" copies. I used the combo updater and have not experienced any issues. My computer feels as if it has had a tune up and runs smoother than before the update.

Here is how I performed the update:
1.a Download the Combo updater for 10.6.6

1. Check the Hard Drive for errors and repaired permissions using Disk Utility.

2. Boot into Safe Mode Hold shift key at the chime when restarting to let OS X run its maintenance routines.

3. Run the Onyx Maintenance routines Always restart twice after using OnyX. If you have a failed 10.6.6 instal (i.e. OS running slowly) read this CAUTION: Do not use Onyx or any other third party utility UNLESS you are sure it is compatible with 10.6.6! Skip running a third party maintenance utility if you are running 10.6.6.

4. Reboot if you ran Onyx (or other maintenance utility) see caution above.

5. Now run the 10.6.6 combo installer and restart.

The first restart after the update may be slow since OS X has to rebuild the caches. I always log in to my user account just to be sure everything is okay and then reboot once more just to be sure the caches and other files rebuilt after the first reboot are working.

Using the combo updater should work since all the updated files since 10.6.0 are replaced with new copies.

TRY THE COMBO UPDATER BEFORE YOU RE-INITALIZE the hard drive. When Mac OS X shows symptoms of slowing down, unlike Windows, it does not require the re-installation of the OS on a freshly erased hard drive to bring the OS up to its usual speediness. Usually all thats required is a simple reboot, (sometimes booting into Safe Mode is required if a simple reboot fails to correct the issue) or in this case installing the Combo Updater.

I hope this helps.

Ok I was able to finally update to 10.6.6. For all those who are experiencing the same issue this is what I did:

+ 1) Enable Root user. ( http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1528)+
+ 2) Boot your mac in Safe-Boot mode (pressing down "shift" after startup chime)+
+ 3) Log in with Root user account and update Mac OS X with Update Combo installer.+
+ 4) Restart after update and log in with your normal account.+

Good luck! =)

Hi,

Well to be honest with you. I have the same exact problems with you all.

My Mac OS X 10.6.6 got screwed up.

I unable to access to my Apple Apps Store.

Somehow I tried many things and none of it works.

Firstly I try to reinstall the Mac OS X DVD to 10.6 and since it does not have any Archive and Install;

Then I proceed with the 10.6.6 combo. And I got the same error which you highlighted.

The same exact error message.

And I have to back things up and reformat my whole hard disk.

And install the Mac OS X 10.6 DVD.

And install the combo.

Every thing back to square one. And install the patches.

And the one thing that I hate is I cannot update the Intego Virus Barrier Express with the Premium Definitions. Because the token is already being used.

This is what I really really hate about the Apple Apps Store.

I really don't like Apple Apps Store.

Once you have reformat your harddisk there is no way of you to get the token Premium Definition updates with the Intego Virus Barrier Express.
