Missing apps on my iPad

I seem to have lost a few apps, or the icons at least. One example is the Wired magazine app. The icon is gone, can not find it with the search tool either. In AppStore it still says the app is installed, so I can not reinstall. It is also still listed in iTunes on my computer, and sync checkbox is cheked next to it.
ITunes and iOS are updated. Restarted the iPad...
What do I try next?

Thank you for the suggestion Dave,
When syncing after having unchecked the app in iTunes i got a message the app will be removed.
I re-checked the box and synced again. It took a while, so I assumed it was transfering the app...
But when I looked at the iPad I still could not find the app.

The apps could have dissapeard at the same time as my folders. Once when I opened the iPad all icons were in a new order, and the folders I had made were gone. I am not sure if it was the iPad or the kids. I think the apps that are missing are ones that were placed inside folders, but I am not sure. Some apps that were in folders are not missing.

Are your screens all filled up with apps and folders? It's been reported in several threads that that can cause problems like disrupting folder setups and having icons no solver viewable. I think selective culling can pull some back into view.

Another thing to try might be to play around in Settings > General > Reset, then resetting either the home screen layout or perhaps just all the settings. Neither affects data, they just take you back to cleaner initial conditions.

After searching all of Apple's support and reading soooo many discussions, I've come up with a simple solution of my own:

In the search box in the upper right-hand side of any window enter ".ipa" this will show you iPad apps. (They're in a folder named "Mobile Applications") highlight one, press "commmand-a" to choose all then drag and drop to your apps window in iTunes. I think you have to have your iPad showing in the sidebar to get to this. You will be asked about replacing old with new, etc., but the default button (The blue one) was always correct for mine.

Now sync your iPad. How'd you do?
