Podcast Problems

I have several podcasts that I have long since unsubscribed to that continue to appear in AppleTV 2. They do not show up on my iPad or iPhone, so this appears to be a bug in AppleTV 2.

Further, there are several episodes of other podcasts that have been listened to and long since deleted, but they too continue to show up only in Apple TV 2.

Anyone else see this?

it's more likely to be an issue with your itunes library having ghost podcast links.
the appletv2 does not store that info, it takes it direct from itunes via HomeSharing.

ghost podcast links have been discussed before and it's always been an itunes library corruption issue.

There's some problem with the podcasts home sharing feature where if you choose to remove the podcast from your iTunes library but choose to "Keep Files" in the iTunes Media Folder rather than moving the actual files to the Trash then the ATV2 will still show the podcasts and be able to play them.

I ran into this issue today. What I did to solve it was to go into my Itunes Media Folder and find the stray podcast and send it to the trash. That should fix it for you.

I had to revert to my old iTunes library. While I was able to create a new library and it get everything properly established, having a new library means completely recreating everything on my iPhone and iPad and losing all the app data.

This is not acceptable and so I'm living with the minor imperfections of having a few deleted podcasts listed on my Apple TV.

While this is certainly a problem with my library, I really think it's a bug - everything shows up correctly on my computer, iPhone, and iPad. The only place it's messed up is on the AppleTV, so I believe this is a bug in the way the AppleTV reads the data from iTunes.

Sigh...not much I can do expect hope that apple sees this and fixes this in a future update.

You're right and that did fix some of them, but somehow the library sees podcasts that just do not exist any more. I went through the trouble of unsubscribing and deleting all my podcasts. I even deleted the whole podcast folder within the iTunes folder.

iTunes itself believes podcasts are empty, but Apple TV still sees a half dozen or so stray podcasts and subscriptions that have long been deleted.
