Question

how to embed a sound or music file into an email

I would like to embed a music wav file into an email. Is there a simple way to do this? I know that the file can be attached but I would like the sound to occur as soon as the email is opened.

Probably an exercise in futility as the recipient's e-mail program determines whether or not anything plays or displays. I've set mine to do everything in plain text, suppressing all that kind of nonsense.

While your solution may be helpful as a permanent solution (and has merit), I need this procedure on a temporary basis, so your solution does not help me. This was a simple matter on Windows XP, but I cannot find the way to do this on the Mac.

You would likely need to create some form of html email which Mail does not create on its own.
Is there a Stationary template that has a sound option? That might be an option, I don't think I saw one.

Standard email doesn't work that way, unfortunately. My recommendation would be to create a webpage with the text and embedded sound you want, and then email a link to that page.

I don't know why this is so difficult to implement. In Windows XP Outlook Express, you simply do a Fomat/Backgound/Sound option and insert the .wav file. Any other procedure is too complicated to worry about and is not worth the effort and time. Thanks all for your help.

That's because Outlook has an html editor driving the whole thing. Mail doesn't create html email.
You need an email program that creates html emails. Mail isn't it.

Here's a way to send it via Mail, but you'll have to figure out how to create the html code yourself:
