Battery - the usage and standby always the same

I have an iphone 4 running 4.1. suddenly since last week the usage and standby time is always the same.

I run my charge down completely until it turns off, then I leave it charged past 100%, but when i start using it they are both the same.

On this subject, and since I too am a new iPhone user (I come from a Samsung Jet), I think two things are missing in the iPhone: a real equivalent of Activity Monitor on a Mac, to check on what's running (and to have the ability to quite and/or force to quit), and a Terminal app for sudo using.

You can go to the app store and find apps that does this. There are certain apps that does monitor ram activity and system activity and it does free up the memory on it's own.

Yes, but how many of them are free, as in, part of the original package, same as Terminal and Activity Monitor are on a Mac? I don't mind paying a few bucks for an app I'll use on a daily basis to work or entertain myself, but I DO mind empyting my pockets for an app that should be factory-installed. My two cents, so to speak...

I'm facing the exact same problem. I have been using my iPhone fine for the past couple of months, but a couple of days ago my battery life decreased drastically.

I already tried hard reset, refresh battery (wait until it finishes and charge to 100%), turning off location services, WI-FI and push notifications, but nothing worked. The usage time is always equal to the standby time, and even with everything turned off and no phone calls (e.g.: overnight) the battery only lasts around 7 hours.

I already uninstalled all the apps I had installed the last week, and the problem continued.

The only different thing I installed and was not able to uninstall was a carrier update (Vivo v9.1). The day I installed it coincides with the begining of the problem. My wife has the same iPhone model, with similar apps, and I told her not to do the update since it might be the cause of the problem.

Any thoughts / suggestions?

Thanks!

Ok, some news about the problem:
1) Carrier configuration had nothing to do with it. I applied it in my wife's phone and everything is fine so far.
2)I followed Kwopau's suggestion and tested several apps (even some paid ones) that are supposed to do system monitoring. In some of them I could see that the CPU usage was very high, and I could even see the processes up and their states, but I couldn't find a single one that showed me how much each process was consuming (so I could find the "rogue" app).

The only solution that worked so far was restoring the iPhone and installing the apps from scratch - the backups I had brought the problem with them. I haven't installed all the apps yet - I'm doing it gradually, one by one, giving them some time to check if the problem happens again. If I'm able to identify the problematic app I'll try restoring the backup and removing it to see what happens.

Does anyone have any recommendation for a system stats app?

Thanks,
Sergio.

I have figured it out, I notice that both the battery usage and standby are the same when the charge drops all the way down till the phone dies off and when I charge it to 100% and leave it there.

Today I charged my phone from 24% till 100 now my phone shows different usage and standby time. I am also noticing this only after I installed an app called battery doctor pro ( I deleted it)

Let me know if this works for you guys.

I'm having the exact same problem. I've only noticed the problem since 1/15/11. Had to take my old iPhone 4 to the Apple store for repair of the sleep/wake button being defective. The guy at the genius bar asked if I had any problems out of my battery when he ran the diagnostic test on the old phone. He said that the stand-by and usage time were the same. I had not noticed any differences up to that point with battery life. Long story short: they replaced my iPhone because they obviously can't fix hardware problems at the store... battery has sucked ever since... this seems like a problem happening to quite a few people within the last week or so... anyone know of any system changes since the Verizon announcement? I don't quite think it's just a coincidental rogue app... Is the new, unreleased AT&T network screwing with the phones?

farazthambi,
I tried recharging the battery at different levels, and it didn´t work.

My iPhone has been working fine since I restored it and started installing the apps from scratch (without using a backup). I am installing 2 or 3 apps per day, and so far I haven´t found the rogue one.

I´ll send an update here when I find it.

So... update... I figured the last straw before I called Apple was to restore my phone. So... I did. After restoring it, I did delete a few apps that I no longer use or have a history of crashing, eg. GoodReader, Sale Price, ect... guess what... battery life has returned to normal and am once again a satisfied Apple customer. Maybe this will be some help to you all. I don't know if one of the apps that I deleted was the rogue app but, I trashed about 10. Good luck!

Hey guys i want to share some infos
If you have this issue i hope this could help

Things i've done on my 3GS (iOS4.2.1):
-Turn off Wi-Fi
-Turn off Push
-Deleted mail account
-Hard reboot
-Network settings reset
-Turn off Location Services
-Log out and force-quit Game Center app
-Open a video and pause then slide the timeline to the beginning and press done
-Force quit iPod app.

I think almost none of them works. I guess only setting reset and hard reboot worked (Also TEMPorarily) Well, i guess i have an easier solution (this ones work for me!, even temporary but i guess it's easier!) (hope helps!)

1st. Turn off WiFi.
2nd. Turn on everything on cellular data (3G, Cellular Data, Data Roaming)
3rd. Wait until iPhone gets 3G signal, after it wait ~5mins
4th. Turn off 3G (DO NOT connect to any Wi-Fi networks before this is done), DO NOT turn off cellular data and data roaming.
5th. Turn on Wi-Fi. Connect to home Wi-Fi if available.
(please don't blame me if this does not work..(it does for me). I get this info from another people...)

You may need to skip step 1 if you have Wi Fi turned off
You may also need to skip step 1 and 5 if you don't have Home Wi-Fi.

Well, im done and happy here but i guess i have to do it every time it happens again...
Yes im happy but of course im still looking for a permanent solution, I hope in 4.3 there's a fix 4 this matter...

Please tell me whether this works or not ^^
Don't get a replacement when it's still good!

Battery - the usage and standby always the same
