itunes keyboard shortcuts play pause not working

I experienced the same issue on my iMac too after the 10.13 upgrade and the subsequent update to 10.13.1.

The quick fix for this issue is to restart the machine.

For some reasons the control over Play/Pause is taken away from iTunes (I suspect VLC in my case) and after closing the program it is not "returned", since I found not residues of VLC in the list of active programs using the shell, I restarted it (SSDs are a blessing) and it was back to normal.

Sudenley I'm also having this problem on my MacBook Pro . I've made sure that the box of standart function key is unchecked.

Also I've noticed that the missfunction problem is "only" occures with itunes and quick time (main media players on mac), which doesn't respond to play,pause, next and previous buttons at all. But applications like VLC player DOES Respond to to those keyboard buttons. I'd like to mantion that all other special function buttons are functioning (brightness, dashboard, volume ect.)

I'm always installing the newest updates for the OS (maybe one of them have caused this problem?).

Hope to find a solution soon because I found those shortcuts very usfull and i use them all the time, so this issue is desruptive to the daily use.

This only works if iTunes is primary function on desktop; before upgrade I could pause my music while desktop was asleep, now I must wake desktop and click in mini window to function pause. Volume works ok.

So I had this issue, too. SlumberMachine's post about SoundCloud peeked my interest. I didn't have that app installed, but when I closed Chrome, I have the google play music extension installed, that solved my problem. I opened up Chrome again and the function immediately stopped working. I uninstalled that extension, and now I'm up and running.
