Charging in other countries

I will be traveling to China later this year and wonder if anyone knows if the iPad and the iPhone 4G can accept a charge on a 240 volt circuit, or do I have to purchase a step-down transformer.

None, iOS 4, None

I think that you mean the cord from the charger to the wall. That's where the higher voltage is present. It's not a problem at all. The cord is deliberately designed accordingly. If you care, the details are...

Wire size concerns are more related to current (amperage) than to voltage. The charger electronics controls the current from the charger to the device which indirectly controls the current from the wall to the charger.

By the way, the comment about your camera does not sound correct. I suspect that you may have misread the information. Is that information available as a link? I'd like to read it myself.

Who would have thought that people might take a camera to another country? Sounds like a "fail" by Nikon.

If you are concerned about your Apple cord then you must talk to them but I doubt there is a problem. If there is then look closely at the power adapter, slide off the cable that connects it to the wall to reveal a "figure-8" socket then buy a cable in the country you are visiting.
