Final Cut Pro - General error/Error: Out of memory

In Final Cut Pro when I try to click on a clip in the browser window it says General error. I click OK and then it says Error: Out of memory. I don't know why it is doing this. I have more then enough room on my external hard drive. Does anyone know how to fix this?

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Memory is not referring to how much storage you have on your external hard drive. It's saying the your computers internal memory cannot handle the file.

So..

What is the file's setting?

What are you computer's specs - ram, speed, etc... You can find your computer's memory by clicking "About this Mac" in your Apple tab.

Let's start there.

Welcome to the family. There are many reasons these errors will come up and most of them are simple user errors. We see this question more often than should be necessary so you can search the forum for the terms. You will find many threads, one or more may help you.

It can be a difficult issue to debug by remote control which is why you need to do most of the research on your own; see if anyone's experience is similar to yours.
