Jan 8, 2011 8:56 PM in response to CwissyBwearby shadowbeast,As far as this being a "common problem".... No. I have an iPhone 4 and have no problems with mine.
If you haven't dropped it or damaged it, you may be entitled to warranty service. Check with your local apple store to see if you are eligible. -
Jan 8, 2011 11:50 PM in response to CwissyBwearby Kwopau,I'd definitely go to the Apple store and get it checked out. most likely they will replace your phone without any problems. -
Jan 9, 2011 2:45 AM in response to CwissyBwearby howdah4,I had a similar problem today. My phone just will not turn on. It was charged and completely working one minute. The next minute, I pressed the home key to check the time and nothing happened. I tried the power button and still nothing. I don't understand what's going on. I've been trying all day to get my phone to turn back on but nothing is working. I'm taking it in to the Apple Store tomorrow to have it looked at. What could it be? -
Jan 9, 2011 9:21 AM in response to howdah4by jeffkinn_uk,Have you tried the hard reset - holding the sleep+home button together for 15 seconds or so until the Apple logo appears. This normally cures this type of problem which is going to occur from time to time. All computers crash from time to time. -
Jan 9, 2011 6:43 PM in response to jeffkinn_ukby CwissyBwear,I can't do a hard reset because it's the sleep button that's unresponsive. I think I'm just going to go to the Apple store and have a Genius check it out. -

actually this problem is more common then you think I see one about once a week on this forum someones sleep/wake switch becoming stuck its not every phone but it definitely happens more frequently then it should
as for the op just take it into a apple store its under warranty they will replace the phone -
Jan 9, 2011 11:12 PM in response to sn4p2kby ali.abbas,Ive been facing the same problem. My iphone went dead exactly the same way and I had to reset it. Its happened twice with me already and thats just within a span of 1 week from purchase.
My OS version is 4.2.1. Can this be an operating system bug or some conflict with any of the apps we might be using?
If anyone gets some further info, do share here please. -
Jan 9, 2011 11:51 PM in response to CwissyBwearby jeffkinn_uk,My advise was to Howdah4 who appeared to have a different problem to you in that his phone would not turn on rather than a defective button. -
Jan 10, 2011 10:02 AM in response to CwissyBwearby Elo820,Wow! Same here. I was going on vacation and just normally using my iPhone, then I tried pressing my sleep button and it's wiggly. It's really hard to to make it go sleep now. I never dropped my phone either. It's weird to know that someone else has the same problem. What do I do? -
Jan 10, 2011 7:48 PM in response to Elo820by CwissyBwear,I already have my appointment set for Thursday, January 13th at the Genius bar so I'll let you know what happens there I'm hoping that they'll just replace the phone! -
Jan 10, 2011 9:56 PM in response to jeffkinn_ukby jclapnte,Thank you soooooo, much for the reset info.
I am still on hold after 48 minutes with Rogers technical support after my phone just stopped working.
At first I thought it had just drained the battery, but when I plugged it in to charge, nothing happened. No apple symbol, nothing.
I've been having issues lately with my phone since the update. It won't sync with the istore and I have to keep putting in into airplane mode and then switch it off just to boost the signal output for surfing, or playing games. It is REALLY annoying.
I think Apple should look into these issues A.S.A.P. -
Jan 13, 2011 6:05 PM in response to Elo820by CwissyBwear,I went to the Apple store today and the replaced my phone, free of charge. The Genius I worked with said that my phone just had some sort of defect and that it couldn't have been avoided. He was very nice and very helpful! -
Jan 14, 2011 12:17 PM in response to CwissyBwearby ali.abbas,CwissyBwear,
Thanks for the information. I guess I shall be doing the same thing too. I just hope the dealer here is as cooperative as the one you got in touch with.
But now that you have a new set, whats the assurance that this one doesnt have the same issue? Did you check the OS version for your new set? Is the same as the one that you just got replaced?

Jan 14, 2011 7:28 PM in response to ali.abbasby CwissyBwear,Yeah, everything is exactly the same. I synced my phone right before I went to my appointment at the Genius bar and restored my new device as my old one as soon as I got home. The Genius assured me that it was a physical defect and nothing to do with the operating system or anything along those lines. I'm running the newest OS, 4.2.1 I think?
