Airplay for multiple speakers

I love Pandora and stream it from my iPhone to my Airport Express in my living room. Today I bought an Apple TV for my den/patio area after being told that Airplay would work on multiple speakers with the iPhone. I know I can stream from iTunes on my computer, but the iPhone will not let me select more than one output source. It appears I was given incorrect info. Anyone experienced this issue?

If you are trying to stream from content that is actually stored on the iOS device then at this time no you cannot stream to more than one location at a time with Airplay.

However, if you download Apple's free Remote app from the App Store for your iPhone, you can access your music in your iTunes library on your computer from your iPhone and stream to multiple devices at the same time with Airplay. Basically the iPhone would be accessing and controlling iTunes as well as it's Airplay ability to stream to multiple devices.

For Pandora radio-Airplay compatibility on the Mac, just download PandoraJam.app by BitCartel Software. It has a selection for sending to your Airport Express, etc. via Airplay.

From your iPad or iPhone, just launch the Pandora app, and then the Airplay functionality is a system-wide function you get to by double clicking the home button then swiping left twice.

You're all set on either operating system. Hope that helps.

you need 2 programs.

  1. shairport4w (free) http://sourceforge.net/projects/shairport4w/

: this program turns your PC/Mac into an Airplay device

  2. Airfoil($25) http://rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/windows/

: this allows you PC/Mac to play through multiple Airplay devices

  3. Once you have installed both (shairpoint4w is just an executeable), point Airfoil to shairport4w.exe

This methods work for me with no problems.

Hi there - Can you provide a bit more detail about how you are able to do this? I'm a windows user with itunes, and I'm trying to play to an Apple TV and an airport express simultaneously from my iphone iOS app which supports airplay. Airfoil using airfoil speakers does not work for me reliably (I can't switch between destinations). So I'm hoping shairport4w will work - but I can only get my iOS to send it to either the PC, the Apple TV, or the airport express.

Searching for a solution to this myself I found an app on the Mac App Store that does the trick. It's called Muse - Pandora Radio Player. It works great, the only thing it doesn't do is send the song details and album art to the Apple TV's. I also found another program on the web call Portal that will apparently steam the sound from your Mac to multiple Airplay devices allowing you to play I Heart Radio and Spotify as well. This app was not in the App Store so I didn't trust it and haven't tried it. Sorry Windows users I don't have a solution for you.
