I opened iMovie earlier this evening and noticed my projects and events were nowhere to be found. I tried to import movies, and it would not let me, let alone bring up the dialog box. I looked at my iPhoto events in the side panel, and noticed that my movies in iPhoto were not showing up. I thought it might be a problem with an update, so I updated the software, but nothing changed, even after restarting. I opened the iMovie folders and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. Is anyone else having the same problem, or has anyone else fixed it?
I am experiencing exactly the same problem. I downloaded from store and installed it. All good. I added in the latest videos from iPhoto and also from my camera. Still all good. I come back two days later to edit the films and iMovie was empty, and like yourself I am unable to import or open any of my files.
Update: the software works fine on other profiles on the computer; it's only on my profile that I am having this issue. Try using the software on a different profile on the computer and see if that works. Personally, I think it's a problem with permissions. So I'm going to opt to create a new profile and slowly move all my files to that one instead.
Same problem here. The projects and the events window are empty all of a sudden. I also can't import movie clips.
Using the Finder I still see my project files in the appropriate folder. But in iMovie it appears as if all my projects and all my events are gone (which is a really scary thought).
I have Time Machine enabled but I don't know exactly how this would help me in this case.
I had the same problem. All my events and projects are missing. In the mean time, iMovie even doesn't allow me to import new video and create new project. It's totally disabled. I tried to call Apple support telephone, it played music for tem minutes and nobody pick up the call. What a sad experience! Can anybody help?
The only thing I did since yesterday, before iMovie lost the Projects and Events, was upload to YouTube (from iMovie), and start using an Apple TV (sweet!).
I don't, but if someone still has the problem see if you are getting any output from iMovie in the console. That may have clues to what causes this problem.
I noticed the problem replicated itself when I reopened it and selected to update movies from iPhoto NOW. I repeated your solution and this time when it prompted, I selected to update movies LATER.
This happened to me today. I suspect it was a recent software update issue. I recall installing some iLife updates the other day and suddenly a number of us are experiencing this problem. Coincidence? Unlikely.
