Deleting a Mail account but saving emails?

Hi there,

I had Mail (2.0.5) set up with one POP account for my ISP. I decided to add my Gmail address as well, so I created a second POP account.

Now I've changed ISP and no longer want the first Account, just the Gmail one. I have learnt from painful experience that when I remove an Account, I delete every email associated with it. I would like to keep all my old emails.

So, is there a way to delete an account but save or transfer the emails?

Thanks in advance.

Utilizing user created "On My Mac" mailboxes (you can create one for the account's Inbox mailbox and another for the account's Sent mailbox) and transfer messages from the account's Inbox and Sent mailbox to the user created mailboxes before deleting the account.

Or with the Mail.app quit and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > this account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account) - for the account to be deleted. All mailboxes associated with the account are located within the account named folder - the account's Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk mailboxes.

Copy the account named folder and place the copy on the Desktop.

Launch Mail and delete the account.

Use the Import Mailboxes feature to import selected mailboxes from within the copy of the account named folder placed on the Desktop. You probably need to import the account's Inbox and Sent mailbox only and the imported mailboxes will be available within the Import named mailbox created in the mailboxes drawer.
