iTunes 10.1.1.4 syncing problems with iPod Touch

Since I upgraded to iTunes 10.1.1.4 I can no longer successfully sync my 1st gen iPod Touch

I now have it configured to sync NO music, NO podcasts, NO photos. NO movies. When I sync, iTunes seems to "hang" on "Finishing sync". Windows task manager shows no cpu use and "not responding". Removing the iPod seems to wake up iTunes again but syncing seems to be no longer possible

I have also deleted my iPod photo cache (as mentioned in another thread)

I've restarted the iPod but not (yet) reverted it to its original settings (as I don't want to lose all my apps as well!!)

This seems to be affecting a few other people as well, but I wanted to start a specific thread with my problem

Thanks

PS I'm Windows XP SP3

pc, Windows XP

Same problem with iPod Classic 160G. All worked well until the last iTunes update. Now iTunes hangs until I unplug my iPod. Resetting or putting into disk mode does nothing. My computer recognizes the iPod but iTunes does not.

This is reminiscent of Microsoft products not recognizing their own products. What's going on Apple? Will we have another update soon?

i have the same problem
i have the ipod touch 2nd gen 16gb, when i try syncing my music to it itunes freezes and then i have to use the task manager to close it. it wont even restore my ipod with the itunes it comes up saying error and stuff, i can restore it on my mums laptop with the old itunes though,(version 9.0.3.15) this is extreemly annoying my mums laptop also has the same operating system and details as my desktop. this is extreemly annoying as i know have no music to listen to while im out.
anyone got any ideas how to solve this?

OK, since I can't uninstall iTunes 10.1.1.4 I tried resetting the iPod - that also fails, leaving the iPod in "restore pending"!

ARRGGHHHH

Luckily my wife also has a pc - I installed 10.1.1.1 (NOT 10.1.1.4) on her pc and managed to get a vanilla iPod again

Now in the process of resyncing my apps (app sync seems to be the only thing that works - music, podcasts, photos all fail)

Looks like I'll have to migrate all my iTunes library from my machine to hers

What a pain

I might actually leave that for a while in case a new iTunes version magically appears

This REALLY REALLY *****

Guess who will be VERY cautious about upgrading iTunes next time!!!!

At least I'm not the only one having issues with 10.1.1.4

iTunes completely freezes now whenever I try to enable homesharing, or add new content to my library, or infact when I actually try to do anything apart from browse the iTunes store.

This is a joke - Surely Apple must realise there's a problem with it and be getting ready to release a new version. 10.1.1.1 worked perfectly, and now I can't backup, update, sync my iPhone or iPad 😟

I to can not sync my iPod touch 32g. First when I upgraded to.4.2.1 it would not recognize it. I called apple and they said to remove my virus software to fix the problem and I did and it worked. Now this BS. When you pay $300.00 or so on there product you should not have all these problems.

I can sync apps but this is it. I bought it for music and videos, and of course the apps but I am not going to uninstall my virus software again to do so. So here we are with these problems and theirs probably more unreported what a wast of money and time just to load music and videos.

My Sansa Clip+ is just drag and drop with no problems that how they should do it.

I too am having this issue with a 3rd generation iPod Touch where iTunes hangs during the final step of 'Finishing Sync'.

Looking around a bit, I found that it could be my anti-virus or firewall that is blocking the correct ports. An article from them ( http://cainternetsecurity.net/KB/KD.aspx?KDId=1050) provided a solution. After setting all programs in the list to the settings shown, i was able to perform a restore and it finished syncing without a hitch. Trying to resync my apps or any audio/video files, the hanging issue returns.

I even tried to sync with my firewall turned off - nada.

If there are any solutions to this, my daily train rides are getting kinda boring and I would like to be able to use my iPod to alleviate it.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled CA ISS WITHOUT firewall, and everything seems OK

Mind you, I did notice (until I lost patience) that there were a LOT of ipod related programs that ISS needed to be told about - did you do them all?

Also, it does seem to be possible to disable the CA ISS firewall altogether (right click on the icon in the task bar) - perhaps that will allow you to test out whether this is indeed your problem?
