Unable to stream audio files from iMac to wireless radio

Hi,
I'm trying to stream the audio files stored on my newly pruchased iMac to my Roberts wireless internet radio and am getting nowhere. This is my first Mac, having been an experienced PC user for many years. I could do this without a problem from my old PC.
I have tried file and internet sharing using a variety of accounts, but the radio doesn't even recognise that the iMac exists. I have no problem accessing the internet etc.. and my iPhone can 'see' and even stream from the iMac.
Help and advise please.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.6)

Welcome to the Apple Discussions!

Sharing the internet is probably not the route to take.

1. In Sys Prefs/Network/AirPort tick the box Show Airport status in menu bar.
2. From the AirPort icon in the menu bar choose Turn on AirPort
3. From the AirPort icon choose Create Network...
4. Fill in the required fields to set up your network.
5. If you use a WEP password for non-Apple products the password must be exactly 5 or 13 alphanumeric characters. (Most folks recommend all Caps such as A1B2C.)

Hi,

Many thanks for that. I had tried all that earlier. I did, however, try again but to no avail. Also when I do that I actually lose the ability to connect to the internet from the iMac.

I think this is something to do with the UPnP service, but I don't know how to get to such a setting here.

What I think I need is to set the machine up so that it shares certain folders to a third party device on the same network that isn't a computer.

Could it be something to do with the Bonjour service ?

Your time and help is greatly appreciated,
Lewis.

Sorry, I did not understand what you were actually doing, but I have now found the Roberts website and I understand what you are doing. Have you been able to access the internet and receive internet based radio stations?

If your internet radio successfully connects to your wi-fi LAN then what you seem to need is a UPnP server app for Mac to stream these media files from the Mac to your radio.

These are free apps for the Intel iMac;
Majestic Media Server
http://majesticdotapp.com/
EyeConnect UPnP™ AV Media Streaming Software*
http://www.elgato.com/elgato/na/mainmenu/products/software/EyeConnect.en.html
XBMC
http://xbmc.org/download/
VideoLAN
http://www.videolan.org/

*EyeConnect is a 30 trial for both audio and video, after the trial ends you must purchase a license for video, but it continues to be audio only for free.

Hi,
Yes, the Radio itself has no problem connecting to the WiFi LAN nor accessing Internet radio stations or on demand content.
It just won't 'see' the mac. My old Win PC had no problems. So I know the set up should work once the appropriate permissions etc have been set.
Thanks for your advise I will look into the suggested resolutions.
Cheers,
Lewis
