With that particular variety of 1606 (it's a 1606 error message even though the 1606 error message number isn't returned by the iTunes installer), the following Microsoft document is worth a try:

[You receive an "Error 1606" error message when you try to install or remove a Microsoft program|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/886549]

I'll try that and see what happens. Right now I'd try just about anything I'm so frustrated. I had itunes fine and then my motherboard and hard drive when out of my laptop. Got them fixed and haven't been able to download it since.

When I pull up my control panel it's showing itunes but I get the same error whether I'm trying to unintall or install.

Thanks for the help. I'll post again once I try it!
