How to change background color when using Jpeg or text

Hello
I imported a jpeg into FCP. When you put the jpeg into the timeline and scale it to size in the canvas, you get the black background around the image.

Is there any way to change this background color?

Amy help would be appreciated.

Put the photo on V2. Put a colored slug underneath it on V1.

You could lay a shape that fills the frame on the layer underneath.

At the bottom right of the viewer is the generator button. Click this to generate a Matte. You can use the controls tab to change the color. Then place this matte on V1 and your picture on V2.
