Recognizing Panasonic PV-GS19 in iMovie

Hello,
I have the following configuration. I am unable to get iMovie to see my old camcorder. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Camcorder: Panasonic PV-GS19
Computer: iMac (purchased Dec 2010)
Connection: 4 to 9 pin firewire (just purchased)

The camcorder does not have an external power (only powered by battery).
The camcorder is on with the setting on playback (green arrow)
I tried rebooting the computer
I tried connecting and turning on the camcorder in different orders

Have tried what I could find on the discussions but nothing to date has worked.
The System-Preferences-Network-FireWire shows as "not connected". I have not changed any settings.

Is it possible to make this camcorder with my iMac. Is a driver needed?

Thanks

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.5)

After further inspection of the camera and from removing the attached battery I see that there is a 7.9V hole with pin. On the battery charger there is a matching hole and pin. Therefore I believe I need to find the cable to connect from the camcorder to the battery charger - didn't find it in first glance through my cables and not positive if it came with the camcorder in the first place.
