How Apple can help me to find my lost iphone4

I bought my iphone4 from store.apple.com/hk last September, it really brought me some fun playing with it.
Unfortunately I lost it last month, I'm almost sure it was stolen by someone right from my pocket. It just happened in 15 seconds within a 20 meters' distance!!
Now my question:- is it, by any chance, possible that Apple could give me some help trying to find out who(with what apple account) is using my ihpone4 at the moment ?
Here is my thought:- If the thief is using my iphone4 then he/she would definitely connect to apple online store(to download/purchace apps) with a apple account at times. When he/she connects to apple online sotre, the data flow must contain IMEI or Serial Number of the phone, so Apple probably have some kinds of records on what email account(apple online store account) is currently binded/associated to this iphone4.
Assuming Apple would agree to give me the details of these information then I would at least be able to try to contact the person that is currently using my phone ?
Note that when I bought my ihpnone4 the OS was probably still below 4.2(I'm not 100% sure about this because I didnt even check it's version) so I didn't have a chance to install the "find my iphone" application. And I guess now it's already too late to try the application without having the phone with me(although I'll be happy if someone here can tell me "No, You're wrong!").
Anyways, by posting my story here, I know chance is slim, but, I'll really appreciate if you can share your ideas on anything else I can do before saying goodbye to my little lovely iphone4 forever...
