Battery level for mouse and keyboard always 100%

The battery level shown in the bluetooth menu and in the system preferences mouse and keyboard panes constantly shows 100% and never declines. Does anyone know the solution to this to start getting realistic readings again? I've tried trashing the bluetooth plist and restarting but that hasn't made any difference.

Many thanks for any help

James

I too have this problem...

iMac, Late 2013, 14,2

3.2 GHz Intel Core I5, 27”

16 GB Ram, 1TB Fusion HD

OS X 10.12.2 (Sierra)

This occurred when I updated to Sierra,10.12.2.

All devices, Keyboard, Trackpad and Mouse.

Seems to be associated with only Lithium (rechargable) batteries. Alkaline and Ni-MH batteries both show normal(?) decline in level.

I personally don't think it has anything to do with Bluetooth, I think it's a System "Feature". Maybe Apple could insert a selection for battery type.

Hi James:

My response is not going to be much help, I am afraid 😟

I have never seen a similar problem ((one like yours) and I read this forum a lot.

Since you have already trashed the preference file and restarted, try resetting the PRAM and SMC (instructions in knowledge base articles).

I suppose you could also reinstall OS X 10.6.6 using the combo updater, but that is a bit time consuming.

Incidentally, I searched my own computer and located a bunch of BT items, but indiscriminately dumping things is not a good idea. I also looked in the knowledge base articles without any hits.

One suggestion I have is to do a "full factory reset" of your bluetooth stuff. I'm not precisely sure all that entails but here's how you do it.

1. If you don't have the XCode developer tools installed then install them.

2. Launch the Bluetooth Explorer. It can be found in /Developer/Applications/Utilities/Bluetooth/.

3. In Bluetooth Explorer's Utilities menu select Modify Software & Device Configuration. A window will be displayed with a number of checkboxes.

4. Check the first four checkboxes (Recant..., *Full Factory Reset*..., Delete link keys..., Delete global bluetooth preference...). They may already be checked for you as the default.

5, Click the Perform actions button.

6. Click Reboot NOW button.

After rebooting re-pair your bluetooth devices. Hopefully your power percentages will be fixed too. If not, I have no other suggestions.

Same here. My Keyboard is fine tho.
Even though, I'm using rechargeable batteries, iStat menus shows my Magic Mouse has 59% charge. On the other hand, the built-in bluetooth menu shows my magic mouse has 100%.
I tried my Magic mouse with two other Macs. Both of the Macs doesn't show 100%. Only my new MBP 17" (eraly 2011) shows 100%.
FYI. I'm on 10.6.7 now.

I also tried the Bluetooth Explorer. It doesn't work.
