Currently Being ModeratedJan 11, 2011 8:34 AM (in response to cameronkay)Are you getting into the installer before the crash? If so, can you get at the install log?A variety of Intel systems, Mac OS X (10.6.5)
Currently Being ModeratedJan 11, 2011 12:07 PM (in response to cameronkay)I'm having the same issue. I've now made successful images off of two master Mac Minis from a 10.6.6 Server using SIU and the Mac Minis never get to the install screen - they'll show the Apple symbol and the standard rotating progress swirl... they'll either stay there or they'll, eventually, Kernal Panic.
I've tried restarting the server, turning on and off Netboot/NFS, resetting the image that is default and nothing gives - these new NetRestores seem botched in some way.
It isn't the Netboot server itself, though - using older Netrestore images stored on the server, the Mac Minis boot fine into the install.
Any help? (other than use DeployStudio?)2.0 ghz Macbook, Mac OS X (10.5.2)
Currently Being ModeratedJan 11, 2011 12:13 PM (in response to gimpi)after some trial and error, i got a 10.6.6 client image created via instadmg to work when restored via the latest nightly build of deploystudio. the same image would fail to boot hardware via netrestore.
try setting the target machine to verbose boot to see if you can catch where the process fails.mbp 2.4, mbp 2.16, powerbook G4 1ghz, G4 400 mhz, dell test box, etc., Mac OS X (10.6.6), plain text 4 life

Currently Being ModeratedJan 11, 2011 3:44 PM (in response to cameronkay)Same problems with different images since Friday. Nothing's worked yet: reinstalled Server softare and rebuilt images with SIU. Varied Mac mini and laptop images with OS 10.6.6 and Server 10.6.6. Supposed to re-image 130+ university classroom Macs this week. Back to external drives one at a time? Oy!Macmini, Mac OS X (10.5.7), Varied Mac minis, Macbooks & MacBook Pros
Currently Being ModeratedJan 11, 2011 5:52 PM (in response to cameronkay)I'm having same issues with my 10.6.6 SIU as well.Mac OS X (10.6.6)
Currently Being ModeratedJan 11, 2011 11:08 PM (in response to cameronkay)Same problem here.
I just tried for the third or fourth time to create a NetRestore image of 10.6.6. It doesn't work. First I thought the client-image was broken, so I made a new image with carbon copy cloner and created a new NetRestore image.
Every time I make a netboot, the client loads the image from the server and then, before the install menu pops up, the client turns off power.
In Verbose-Mode the client failes to initialize BootCache.
A NetRestore image I made two weeks ago (10.6.5 client made with 10.6.4 server) works without problems.
Anyone a idea how to solve?
Currently Being ModeratedJan 12, 2011 12:38 AM (in response to EntusDictus)Has anyone tired to building a 10.6.6 NetRestore image using a system running 10.6.5 instead of 10.6.6?
Currently Being ModeratedJan 12, 2011 12:49 AM (in response to cameronkay)Getting the same issue with 10.6.3 Server (new install I've yet to update) and 10.6.6 client (iMac). Going to try updating the Server as well, loathed as I am to waste time on something I'll just have to wipe and reinstall anyway.
Need to take the lot to site tomorrow and roll out. Going to be a late night I think....
Currently Being ModeratedJan 12, 2011 2:12 AM (in response to Christopher Mills2)10.6.6 Server no different. Giving myself a crash course in Deploy Studio now - had enough of SIU and Apple's inability to test updates properly.
Currently Being ModeratedJan 12, 2011 5:29 AM (in response to cameronkay)Same here - SIU & NetRestore ***** :-((( I'm fed up of Apple's updates...MacBook Pro 17'', Mac OS X (10.6.4)
Currently Being ModeratedJan 12, 2011 8:36 AM (in response to cameronkay)That won't work either. The problem is with the OS installation not SIU (which didn't change between 10.6.5 and 10.6.6.). There are drivers missing which are needed to boot the machine. One thing that might work, though I haven't tried it yet, is to create a NetRestore from a 10.6.3 InstallDVD and the 10.6.6 combo updater. If that boots, you could then replace the restore image (System.dmg) with your desired content (i.e. the System.dmg from the non-booting restore image.)A variety of Intel systems, Mac OS X (10.6.5)
Currently Being ModeratedJan 12, 2011 8:49 AM (in response to cameronkay)I created a partition on my server to be the source for my NetRestore images. This worked great under 10.6.5 server. When I updated to 10.6.6, nbi's created from this same partition stopped working. Old ones still worked fine. As a test I booted the server to target disk mode and plugged a client machine via firewire. I was able to boot using this partition no problem. I then created a new nbi with this partition as source and the same machine will not NetBoot to it. So, something must be up with the update.MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.6)
Currently Being ModeratedJan 12, 2011 9:13 AM (in response to El Iguana)Hopefully Apple will fix this ASAP. I'm currently setting up three new clients by using Carbon Copy Cloner via Firewire..... ZzzZZz....MacBook Pro 17'', Mac OS X (10.6.4)
