Hi, Francois.
Hopefully, 6+ years later, you've stumbled across the solution. I'm sure Apple will have redesigned the feature at some point but, currently, you can hide a purchase by right clicking in the area surrounding the open/install button (see image). Fingers crossed this sorts you out!
Cheers,
John.

I am with the rest on that. Really like this reply too:
"I very much appreciate the new "Purchased" option enabling me to download past purchases directly to my device. BUT FOR GOD'S SAKE PLEASE PUT IN A "PERMANENTLY DELETE" OPTION!!! I downloaded free and/or purchased apps when I was drunk one day and are of dubious suitability for the rest of my family to see and/or are exceedingly embarrassing were I to have to explain. I deleted them off my iPhone and iPad and iMac BUT THEY KEEP APPEARING IN 'PURCHASED' at the iTunes Store. PLEASE! Install a PERMANENTLY DELETE option for 'Purchases'."
really need to keep my macs clean................ will i ever not be able 2 get rid of apps in the mac app store....?
I know this has been asked before, and that the answer is "you can't." but it seems it could be easily achieved, so consider this a feature suggestion.
I'd like to be able to delete apps from the Purchases tab, so that when I install on a fresh computer, I can just click down the list installing all apps, without seeing those I've tried out and decided I don't want.
This could be achieved with a pseudo-trash, which removes an app from display in the default list, but is still accessible when clicking the Trash icon.
This could be extended further with custom folders that the apps could be dragged into. Then I could create Work & Games folders, in addition to the standard Trash folder, so for instance if a computer is only for work, I can easily show only those apps.
