iPhoto 11 and NAS

iPhoto 11 and NAS

Previously I stored by iPhoto 9 files and library on NAS. Once I upgraded to iPhoto 11 it will not recognize the iPhoto files on the NAS. I get an error message that iPhoto cannot read the formatting. I did some research, but I am still unclear if iPhoto 11 will work with networked storage. Can anyone clarify this situation?

iPhoto 11 will not work with the Library on a NAS.

No version will run reliably on a NAS.

iPhoto needs to have the Library sitting on disk formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Users with the Library sitting on disks otherwise formatted regularly report issues including, but not limited to, importing, saving edits and sharing the photos.

Yes, but will it then be a NAS and not just an external drive? The usual workaround might be to create a disk image formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and store the library on that. Put that on the NAS.

Open Disk Utility and click on "New Image".
