Mail keeps "quitting unexpectedly" after the latest OS X upgrade

After the most recent OS X upgrade my Mail.app keeps "quitting unexpectedly" as soon as it connects to the internet. Some messages do get through but it takes 5-10 seconds for the app to crash (sometimes it takes less than that, sometimes more). The error message is something like that:

Process: Mail [5109]

Identifier: com.apple.mail
Version: 4.4 (1082)

Application Specific Information:
-[IMAPAccount _fetchUnreadCountsCheckForNewMessages:]
-[IMAPMailboxSyncEngine _goWithMessagesIfNeeded:]
etc.

If no internet connection is available Mail is not crashing (not that it can be of any use in this case).

Does anyone has any ideas?

Thanks a lot!!

I'm having some mail problems as well since the OS update.

POP mail won't send and will not allow any other mail to send quite often causing Mail to crash.
MS Exchange messages send fine as well as MobileMe (IMAP). If I take my machine offline and delete the message then my other non-pop messages send as normal. Interesting . . .

I updated my system to OS 10.6.6 this morning.

Any of this sound familiar?

Cheers,
Chris

My Mail has been doing the same. Even when I hit "quit", it doesn't quit, and it won't let my computer shut down either. This only started happening when I updated to 10.6.6. Some of my mailboxes also decide to not work, even though the settings (IMAP, etc.) for those email addresses haven't been changed (I checked!). Could this possibly be an update error on Apple's part?

Hi all,

"can you try something, open keychain -> keychain access -> keychain first aid. after running that, does it show any problems (displayed in red)? if so, what were the problems and then repair."

I tried this method and it worked a treat. After running the Keychain first aid, it found an error with iMail. Unassigned port configuration. Click the Repair an Start button and voila, its fixed now. Thanks for the heads up.
